I grew up in Michigan and found my love of music St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and School in Plymouth, MI. I attended Stevenson High School in Livonia, MI, and went on to earn my B.A. in Vocal Music Education from Michigan State University. After graduation, I taught middle school choir at Lakeview Public Schools. During that time, I also taught voice lessons and early childhood music in Battle Creek, MI, and enjoyed singing professionally with choirs and orchestras around the country. I returned to MSU and earned my M.M. in Choral Conducting in 2003. During that time, I met and married my husband, Pastor Mark Tiefel, and moved to Wisconsin where I served for two years as Director of Choirs at Pewaukee High School. My work in ministry began when my husband was called to pastor Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Houston, TX, where I served as Worship Coordinator and music teacher for five years.

I have had the privilege of serving the WELS as a School of Worship consultant for many years, visiting churches all over the country to discuss best practice in worship and music. I have been a regular presenter and guest conductor at WELS National Worship Conferences since 2008. I also currently serve on the WELS hymnal project.

It is a privilege to praise God and make music with the students at Emanuel! I am passionate that every child (and adult!) can learn to sing and read music, so that they can worship and sing God’s praises with confidence and joy!  My husband and I are blessed with three daughters, Hannah, Nora, and Greta. In my freetime, I enjoy camping and hiking, reading, cooking, and road-trips to visit my extended family in Michigan.
